Let μ\mu be a Haar measure on the additive group g\mathfrak{g}.

a) There exists a unique Haar measure μG\mu_G on G with the following property: if ωG\omega_G and ωg\omega_{\mathfrak{g}} are invariant differential forms of degree nn on G and g\mathfrak{g}, respectively, such that ωG(e)=ωg(0)\omega_G(e) =\omega_{\mathfrak{g}}(0) and ∣ωg∣=μ|\omega_{\mathfrak{g}}|=\mu, then ∣ωG∣=μG|\omega_G|=\mu_G. The map μ→μG\mu \rightarrow \mu_G is a bijection from the set of Haar measures on g\mathfrak{g} to the analogous set for G. b) Choose a scalar product (∣)(|) invariant under g\mathfrak{g}, and a Haar measure τ\tau on t\mathfrak{t} such that μ\mu (resp. τ\tau ) corresponds to the Lebesgue measure when g\mathfrak{g} is identified with Rn\mathbf{R}^n (resp. t\mathfrak{t} with Rr\mathbf{R}^r) by means of an orthonormal basis. Prove the formula

∫tπg(x)e−(x∣x)/2dτ(x)=(2π)n/2τT(T)μG(G)w(G) \int_{\mathfrak{t}}\pi_{\mathfrak{g}}(x)e^{-(x|x)/2}d\tau (x) = (2\pi )^{n/2}\frac{\tau_T(T)}{\mu_G(G)}w(G)

c) Identify X(T) with a subset of the Hilbert space t∗\mathfrak{t}^* by means of the map (2πi)−1δ((2\pi i)^{-1}\delta (§4, no. 2), and put P(x)=∏α∈R+⟨α,x⟩P(x) =\prod_{\alpha\in R_+}\langle \alpha , x\rangle for x∈tx\in \mathfrak{t}. With the notations

of Exerc. 1 and 2, show that

τT(T)μG(G)=(2π)Nw(G)−1(P∣P)=πN∏(α∣α)∏mi\frac{\tau_T(T)}{\mu_G(G)}= (2\pi )^Nw(G)^{-1}(P|P) =\pi^N\prod(\alpha |\alpha )\prod m_i!

α∈R+i=1\alpha \in R_+i=1 d) With the notations of Exerc. 9 of §3, let gZ\mathfrak{g}_{\mathbf{Z}} be the Z\mathbf{Z}-Lie subalgebra of g\mathfrak{g} generated by (2π)−1Γ(T)(2\pi )^{-1}\Gamma (T) and the elements uα,vαu_{\alpha}, v_{\alpha} for α∈R\alpha \in R. Prove the equality

μG(G)=μ(g/gZ)2∏irπmiN+\mu_G(G) =\mu(\mathfrak{g}/\mathfrak{g}_{\mathbf{Z}})2\prod^r_i\pi m^{N+}_i!r^r.

e) Assume that G is simply-connected. Show that l=rl=r and that

μG(G)=2l/2π−Nf1/2∏α∈R+(α∣α)−1∏i=1l(αi∣αi)−1/2∏i(mi\mu_G(G) = 2^{l/2}\pi^{-N}f^{1/2}\prod_{\alpha\in R_+}(\alpha |\alpha )^{-1}\prod_{i=1}^l(\alpha_i|\alpha_i)^{-1/2}\prod_i(m_i!)−1^{-1},

where {α1,...,αl}\{\alpha_1, . . . , \alpha_l\} is a basis of R and ff is the connection index of R.

f) Assume further that R is irreducible and that all its roots are of the same length; take the scalar product on g\mathfrak{g} to be the opposite of the Killing form. Prove that μG(G)=(2π)N+r(2h)n/2f1/2∏i(mi\mu_G(G) = (2\pi )^{N+r}(2h)^{n/2}f^{1/2}\prod_i(m_i!)−1^{-1}.
