Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VII, 58

Let g\mathfrak{g} be a real Lie algebra, r\mathfrak{r} the radical of g,h\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h} and h′\mathfrak{h}' Cartan subalgebras of g,φ\mathfrak{g},\varphi the canonical homomorphism from g\mathfrak{g} to g/r\mathfrak{g}/\mathfrak{r}. The following conditions are equivalent:

(i) h\mathfrak{h} and h′\mathfrak{h}' are conjugate under Int(g\mathfrak{g});

(ii) φ(h)\varphi (\mathfrak{h}) and φ(h′)\varphi (\mathfrak{h}') are conjugate under Int(g/r\mathfrak{g}/\mathfrak{r}). (Imitate the proof of Prop. 5.)
