Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VII, § 3. Conjugacy theorems

Let g\mathfrak{g} be a Lie algebra, r\mathfrak{r} its radical, h\mathfrak{h} and h′\mathfrak{h}' Cartan subalgebras of g\mathfrak{g}, and φ\varphi the canonical homomorphism from g\mathfrak{g} to g/r\mathfrak{g}/\mathfrak{r}. The following conditions are equivalent:

(i) h\mathfrak{h} and h′\mathfrak{h}' are conjugate by an elementary automorphism of g\mathfrak{g};

(ii) φ(h)\varphi (\mathfrak{h}) and φ(h′)\varphi (\mathfrak{h}') are conjugate by an elementary automorphism of g/r\mathfrak{g}/\mathfrak{r}.

(i) =⇒=\Rightarrow (ii): This is clear.

(ii) =⇒=\Rightarrow (i): We assume that condition (ii) is satisfied and prove (i). By Lemma 3, we are reduced to the case where φ(h)=φ(h′)\varphi (\mathfrak{h}) =\varphi (\mathfrak{h}'). Put k=\mathfrak{k}= h+r=h′+r\mathfrak{h}+\mathfrak{r}=\mathfrak{h}'+\mathfrak{r}, which is a solvable subalgebra of g\mathfrak{g}. Then h\mathfrak{h} and h′\mathfrak{h}' are Cartan subalgebras of k\mathfrak{k}, so there exists x∈C∞(k)x\in \mathscr{C}^{\infty}(\mathfrak{k}) such that eadkxh=h′e^{ad_{\mathfrak{k}}x}\mathfrak{h}=\mathfrak{h}' (Th. 3). Since k/r\mathfrak{k}/\mathfrak{r} is nilpotent, C∞(k)⊂r\mathscr{C}^{\infty}(\mathfrak{k})\subset \mathfrak{r}; on the other hand, C∞(k)⊂[k,k]⊂[g,g]\mathscr{C}^{\infty}(\mathfrak{k})\subset [\mathfrak{k},\mathfrak{k}]\subset [\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g}], so x∈r∩[g,g]x\in \mathfrak{r}\cap [\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g}]; by Chap. I, §5, no. 3, Th. 1, adgx_{\mathfrak{g}}x is nilpotent, so eadgxe^{ad_{\mathfrak{g}}x} is an elementary automorphism of g\mathfrak{g} transforming h\mathfrak{h} to h′\mathfrak{h}'.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
