Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VII, 65

Let k′k' be an extension of kk and g′\mathfrak{g}' a k′k'-Lie subalgebra of

gl(V⊗kk′)=gl(V)⊗kk′ \mathfrak{g}\mathfrak{l}(V\otimes_kk') =\mathfrak{g}\mathfrak{l}(V)\otimes_kk'

a) Show that there exists a smallest Lie subalgebra g\mathfrak{g} of gl(V)\mathfrak{g}\mathfrak{l}(V) such that g⊗kk′\mathfrak{g}\otimes_kk' contains g′\mathfrak{g}'.

b) Assume that k′k' is algebraically closed and denote by G the group of kk-automorphisms of k′k'; this group operates in a natural way on V⊗kk′V\otimes_kk'. Show that g⊗kk′\mathfrak{g}\otimes_kk' is the Lie subalgebra generated by the conjugates of g′\mathfrak{g}' under G (use the fact that kk is the field of G-invariants in k′k').

c) Show that g\mathfrak{g} is decomposable if g′\mathfrak{g}' is decomposable. (Reduce to the case where k′k' is algebraically closed, and use bb) as well as Cor. 1 and 3 of Th. 1.)
