Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VIII, 227

Let (Xα)α∈R(X_{\alpha})_{\alpha\in R} be a Chevalley system in the split semi-simple Lie algebra (g,h)(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h}). Let α,β∈R\alpha , \beta \in R, and let pp (resp. qq) be the largest integer jj such that β+jα∈R\beta +j\alpha \in R (resp. β−jα∈R\beta -j\alpha \in R), cf. Lemma 4. Show that

ad(XαX_{\alpha})k(Xβ−qα)=±k^k(X_{\beta-q\alpha}) =\pm k!Xβ+(k−q)αX_{\beta+(k-q)\alpha} for 0≤k≤p+q0\leq k\leq p+q.

Deduce that the algebra gZ\mathfrak{g}_{\mathbf{Z}} of Prop. 8 is stable under the ad(XαX_{\alpha})k/k^k/k! and under the ead(Xα)e^{ad(X_{\alpha})} (cf. §12).
