Bourbaki

Exercise 11, § 10

General Topology, I, 151

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Let (G,X,Y)(G, X, Y) be a proper correspondence (Exercise 10).

a) Show that if B\mathfrak{B} is a filter base on XX which consists of closed sets, then

⋂M∈BG(M)=G(⋂M∈BM). \bigcap_{M \in \mathfrak{B}} G(M) = G\left( \bigcap_{M \in \mathfrak{B}} M \right).

b) For each y∈Yy \in Y and each neighbourhood VV of G‾−1(y)\overline{G}^{-1}(y) in XX, show that there is a neighbourhood WW of yy in YY such that G‾−1(W)⊂V\overline{G}^{-1}(W) \subset V ("continuity of the roots as functions of the parameters") (use Exercise 6 of § 9).
