Exercise 15, § 10

General Topology, I, 152

Let XX be a Hausdorff space, AA a closed subset of XX, ff a proper mapping of X−AX - A into a locally compact space YY, Y′Y' the one-point compactification of YY, and ω\omega the point at infinity in Y′Y'. Let gg be the mapping of XX into Y′Y' which coincides with ff on X−AX - A and maps each point of AA to ω\omega. Show that gg is continuous.
