Exercise 12, § 8

General Topology, I, 136

Let XX be a topological space which has at least two points. a) Show that the topologies TΩ\mathfrak{T}_\Omega and TΦ\mathfrak{T}_\Phi on P0(X)\mathfrak{P}_0(X) (§ 2, Exercise 7) are not topologies of an accessible space. b) Let TΘ\mathfrak{T}_\Theta denote the least upper bound of the topologies TΩ\mathfrak{T}_\Omega and TΦ\mathfrak{T}_\Phi. Show that the set F(X)\mathfrak{F}(X) of non-empty closed subsets of XX, with the topology induced by TΘ\mathfrak{T}_\Theta, is a Kolmogoroff space, and that if XX is accessible, so is F(X)\mathfrak{F}(X). c) Supposing that XX is accessible, show that the space F(X)\mathfrak{F}(X) (with the topology induced by TΘ\mathfrak{T}_\Theta) is Hausdorff if and only if XX is regular.
