Exercise 18, § 8

General Topology, I, 137

Let X1,X2X_1, X_2 be two sets, let Fi\mathfrak{F}_i be a filter on XiX_i (i=1,2i = 1, 2), and let ff be a mapping of X1×X2X_1 \times X_2 into a regular space YY such that, for each x1∈X1x_1 \in X_1 there exists lim⁡x2,F2f(x1,x2)=g(x1)\lim_{x_2, \mathfrak{F}_2} f(x_1, x_2) = g(x_1).

Show that a point a∈Ya \in Y is a cluster point of gg with respect to the filter F1\mathfrak{F}_1 if and only if, given any neighbourhood VV of aa in YY and any set A1∈F1A_1 \in \mathfrak{F}_1, there exists x1∈A1x_1 \in A_1 and A2∈F2A_2 \in \mathfrak{F}_2 such that f({x1}×A2)⊂Vf(\{x_1\} \times A_2) \subset V.
