Exercise 28, § 8

General Topology, I, 141

Let XX be a Hausdorff space which is not regular, let FF be a closed subset of XX and let a∉Fa \notin F be a point of XX such that every neighbourhood of aa meets every neighbourhood of FF. Let RR be the equivalence relation on XX obtained by identifying all the points of FF. Show that RR is closed and that the graph of RR is closed in X×XX \times X, but that RR is not Hausdorff.
