Exercise 1, § 9

General Topology, I, 141

Let XX be a topological space, G\mathfrak{G} a subbase of the topology of XX (§2§ 2, no. 3). Show that XX is quasi-compact if every open covering of XX formed by sets belonging to G\mathfrak{G} contains a finite covering of XX. (Observe that if an ultrafilter UU on XX were not convergent, then every x∈Xx \in X would belong to a set of G\mathfrak{G} not belonging to UU; and use the corollary to Proposition 5 of §6§ 6).
