Exercise 12, § 9

General Topology, I, 143

Let XX be a topological space, F(X)\mathfrak{F}(X) the set of non-empty closed subsets of XX, K(X)\mathfrak{K}(X) the set of non-empty quasi-compact subsets of XX;

endow each of these sets with the topology induced by the topology TΩ\mathfrak{T}_\Omega on B0(X)\mathfrak{B}_0(X) (§ 2, Exercise 7).

a) Show that if B⊂F(X)\mathfrak{B} \subset \mathfrak{F}(X) is quasi-compact with respect to TΩ\mathfrak{T}_\Omega and if XX is regular, then the union of the sets M∈BM \in \mathfrak{B} is closed in XX.

b) Show that if B⊂K(X)\mathfrak{B} \subset \mathfrak{K}(X) is quasi-compact with respect to TΩ\mathfrak{T}_\Omega then the union of the sets M∈BM \in \mathfrak{B} is quasi-compact.
