Bourbaki

Exercise 22, § 9

General Topology, I, 147

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

a) Let XX be a Hausdorff space and let AA be a dense subset of XX. Show that if every filter on AA has at least one cluster point in XX, then XX is absolutely closed [verify axiom (AF') of Exercise 18].

b) Let X0X_0 be a compact space which has a non-open dense subset AA, and let T0\mathfrak{T}_0 be the topology of X0X_0. Let T\mathfrak{T} be the topology on X0X_0 generated by AA and the subsets of X0X_0 which are open in T0\mathfrak{T}_0, so that T∗=T0\mathfrak{T}^* = \mathfrak{T}_0 (§8§ 8, Exercise 20). If XX denotes the non-compact absolutely closed space obtained by endowing the set X0X_0 with the topology T\mathfrak{T} (Exercise 21) show that every filter on AA has a cluster point in XX.
