Exercise 26, § 9

General Topology, I, 149

If XX is a discrete space, show that the spaces X′′X'' and X~\tilde{X} defined in Exercise 25 are identical, and that if T\mathfrak{T} is the topology of the space X′X' defined in Exercise 24, then X′′X'' can be identified with the space X′X' carrying the semi-regular topology T∗\mathfrak{T}^* associated with T\mathfrak{T} (§ 8, Exercise 20). Furthermore, the set X′′X'' can be canonically identified with the set of ultrafilters on XX. The compact space X′′X'' is called the ultrafilter space of XX.
