Exercise 15, § 4

General Topology, II, 212

Let XX be a compact space. Then the space F(X)\mathfrak{F}(X) of non-empty closed subsets of XX, with the topology induced by T(U~)\mathfrak{T}(\tilde{U}) (Exercise 11), is compact (Chapter I, § 9, Exercise 13). Consider an ultrafilter Ψ\Psi on F(X)\mathfrak{F}(X), and suppose that for each entourage VV of the uniformity of XX, and each x∈Ψ′x \in \Psi', there exists M∈XM \in \mathfrak{X} such that any two points of MM can be joined by a V-chain contained in MM. Show that the limit point AA of Ψ′\Psi' in F(X)\mathfrak{F}(X) is a connected subset of XX (use Proposition 6 of no. 4).
