Exercise 16, § 2

General Topology, III, 301

Let HH be a subgroup of a semi-topological group GG, contained in the component KK of ee. Show that the components of the space G/HG/H are the images of the components of GG under the canonical mapping ff of GG onto G/HG/H [if LL is a component of G/HG/H, show that f‾(L)\overline{f}(L) is connected, by reductio ad absurdum]. Show that KK is the smallest of the closed subgroups HH of GG such that G/HG/H is totally disconnected.
