Exercise 20, § 2

General Topology, III, 302

Let H,H′H, H' be two subgroups of a semi-topological group GG, such that H′⊂HH' \subset H. Show that if f,f′f, f' are the canonical mappings of GG onto G/HG/H and G/H′G/H' respectively, then there is a unique mapping φ\varphi of G/H′G/H' onto G/HG/H such that f=φ∘f′f = \varphi \circ f'; φ\varphi is continuous and open. If moreover H′H' is open in HH, then every point xx of G/H′G/H' has a neighbourhood VV such that the restriction of φ\varphi to VV is a homeomorphism of VV onto a neighbourhood of φ(x)\varphi(x) in G/HG/H.
