Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Let GG and G′G' be two locally isomorphic connected groups. a) Let ff be a local isomorphism of GG with G′G', defined on a neighbourhood VV of the identity element of GG. Let HH be the subgroup of the product G×G′G \times G' generated by the set of points (x,f(x))(x, f(x)) where x∈Vx \in V. Consider the filter base on HH consisting of the images of neighbourhoods of ee contained in VV under the mapping x→(x,f(x))x \to (x, f(x)). Show that this filter base is a fundamental system of neighbourhoods of the identity element of HH for a topology T\mathfrak{T} compatible with the group structure of HH. b) Show that there exist two discrete normal subgroups K,K′K, K' contained in the centre of HH, such that GG is isomorphic to H/KH/K and G′G' is isomorphic to H/K′H/K' [use Exercise 5 b)]. c) Take GG and G′G' each to be the group TT; let φ\varphi be the canonical homomorphism of R\mathbf{R} onto T=R/ZT = \mathbf{R}/\mathbf{Z}, and let ff be the local isomorphism which maps each point φ(x)\varphi(x), where −1/4≤x≤1/4-1/4 \leq x \leq 1/4, to φ(θx)\varphi(\theta x), θ\theta being an irrational number such that 0<θ<10 < \theta < 1. Show that for this local isomorphism, the topology T\mathfrak{T} defined on HH is distinct from the topology induced on HH by the product topology on G×G′G \times G'.
