Exercise 7, § 4

General Topology, III, 309

Let GG be a Hausdorff group operating continuously on a locally compact space XX, and suppose that (i) for every compact subset KK of XX, the restriction to G×KG \times K of the mapping (s,x)→s.x(s, x) \to s.x is a closed mapping of G×KG \times K into XX; (ii) for each x∈Xx \in X, s→s.xs \to s.x is a proper mapping of GG into XX. Show that GG operates properly on XX (use Proposition 12).
