General Topology, III

Let (xi)i∈I(x_i)_{i \in I} be a family of points of a Hausdorff commutative group GG. For every finite subset HH of II, let sHs_H denote ∑i∈Hxi\sum_{i \in H} x_i, and let AA be the set of cluster points of the mapping H→sHH \to s_H with respect to the directed set F(I)\mathfrak{F}(I). For every finite subset JJ of II, let Φ(J)\Phi(J) denote the closure of the set of points sHs_H, where HH runs through the finite subsets of II such that H∩J=∅H \cap J = \varnothing. Show that if A≠∅A \neq \varnothing then the set A−AA - A (i.e. the set of all x−x′x - x' where x∈Ax \in A and x′∈Ax' \in A) is the same as the set B=⋂J∈F(I)Φ(J)B = \bigcap_{J \in \mathfrak{F}(I)} \Phi(J); and that in any case B+B⊂BB + B \subset B. Deduce that if AA is not empty, then BB is a closed subgroup of GG and that AA is a coset of BB in GG.
