Exercise 3, § 3

General Topology, IX

The topology T\mathscr{T} defined by a saturated family {fi}\{f_i\} of left-invariant pseudometrics on a group GG is compatible with the group structure of GG if and only if, for each a∈Ga \in G, each index ii and each real number x>0x > 0, there exists an index xx and a real number p^>0\hat{p} > 0 such that the relation fi(e,x)≤p^f_i(e, x) \leq \hat{p} implies fi(a,axa−1)≤xf_i(a, axa^{-1}) \leq x. If this condition is satisfied, the uniformity on GG defined by the family F\mathscr{F} is the same as the left uniformity of the topological group obtained by endowing GG with the topology T\mathscr{T}.
