General Topology, V

Let EE be a linearly ordered set with a smallest element ω\omega, and let II be an interval of EE, containing ω\omega, with ω\omega as its left-hand end-point. Suppose that EE and II satisfy axioms (GR_I), (GR_{II}), (GR_{IV}) and the following axiom:

(GR_{IIIb}) The set of elements x>ωx > \omega in II is not empty, and if xx is any element >ω> \omega in II, there exists y>ωy > \omega in II such that y2≤xy^2 \leq x.

Show that there exists an increasing mapping ff of II into R\mathbf{R}, such that f(ω)=0f(\omega) = 0 and f(xy)=f(x)+f(y)f(xy) = f(x) + f(y) whenever x,yx, y and xyxy are in II; also that f(I)∩[0,f(b)]f(I) \cap [0, f(b)] is dense in [0,f(b)][0, f(b)] for all b∈Ib \in I.
