General Topology, V

Let GG be a non-commutative linearly ordered group (for example the multiplicative group of a non-commutative ordered division ring). In the set R+×G\mathbf{R}_+ \times G consider the set EE consisting of (0,e)(0, e) (ee being the identity element of GG) and all pairs (x,y)(x, y) where xx is any real number >0> 0 and yy is any element of GG. Define a law of composition on EE by the rule (x,y)(x′,y′)=(x+x′,yy′)(x, y)(x', y') = (x + x', yy'), and order EE lexicographically [i.e. (x,y)<(x′,y′)(x, y) < (x', y') if x<x′x < x' or if x=x′x = x' and y<y′y < y']. If we take I=EI = E, show that axioms (GR_I), (GR_{II}), (GR_{IIIb}) (Exercise 1) and (GR_{IV}) are satisfied; but that if ff is an increasing mapping of EE into R+\mathbf{R}_+ such that f(zz′)=f(z)+f(z′)f(zz') = f(z) + f(z') for all aa and z′z' in EE, then ff is not strictly increasing.
