Exercise 3, § 3

General Topology, V

Let GG be a (not necessarily commutative) linearly ordered group. If GG, endowed with the topology T0(G)\mathscr{T}_0(G), is locally compact and not discrete, then GG is locally isomorphic to R\mathbf{R}, and the identity component of GG is an open subgroup isomorphic to R\mathbf{R} (use Exercise 6 of Chapter IV, § 2, and Proposition 2 of § 2).
