Bourbaki

Exercise 8, § 4

General Topology, VIII

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Extend Exercises 7, 8 and 9 of Chapter VI, § 3 to the spaces Wn,pW_{n,p} (no. 4). In the vector space Hn\mathbf{H}^n over the division ring of quaternions, we again denote by Wn,pW_{n,p} the set of all sequences (xk)1≤k≤p(x_k)_{1 \leq k \leq p} of pp vectors xk=(xkj)1≤j≤nx_k = (x_{kj})_{1 \leq j \leq n} such that

∑j=1nxijx‾ij=1(1≤i≤p) \sum_{j=1}^n x_{ij} \overline{x}_{ij} = 1 \quad (1 \leq i \leq p)
and
∑j=1nxijx‾ij=0(i≠k) \sum_{j=1}^n x_{ij} \overline{x}_{ij} = 0 \quad (i \neq k)
(x‾\overline{x} denoting the conjugate of the quaternion xx). Extend Exercises 7, 8 and 9 of Chapter VI, § 3, to these spaces Wn,pW_{n,p}.
