Exercise 1, § 2

General Topology, X

Let ff be the real-valued function on R\mathbf{R} which is equal to 0 for x≤0x \leq 0, to xx for 0≤x≤10 \leq x \leq 1, and to 1 for x≥1x \geq 1. Show that the sequence of real-valued functions fn(x)=f(nx−n2)f_n(x) = f(nx - n^2) (n∈Nn \in \mathbf{N}) is equicontinuous but not uniformly equicontinuous on R\mathbf{R}, although it is formed of uniformly continuous functions.
