Exercise 2, § 2

General Topology, X

Let XX be a Hausdorff topological space in which every point admits a countable fundamental system of neighbourhoods, and let YY be a uniform space. Let HH be a subset of C(X;Y)\mathscr{C}(X; Y) with the property that, for each compact subset KK of XX, the set H∣KH|K of restrictions to KK of mappings u∈Hu \in H is an equicontinuous subset of C(K;Y)\mathscr{C}(K; Y). Show that HH is equicontinuous (argue by contradiction).
