Exercise 7, § 2

General Topology, X

Let X be a topological space, Y a complete Hausdorff uniform space, and let φ\varphi be a uniformly continuous homeomorphism of Y onto an open subset φ(Y)\varphi(Y) of a Hausdorff uniform space Y′Y'. Let H be an equicontinuous subset of C(X;Y)\mathscr{C}(X; Y), and let H' be the set of mappings φ∘u\varphi \circ u, where u∈Hu \in H. If vv lies in the closure of H' in Fs(X;Y′)\mathscr{F}_s(X; Y'), show that ν‾1(φ(Y))\overline{\nu}^1(\varphi(Y)) is both open and closed in X. In particular, if X is connected, ν(X)\nu(X) is contained in φ(Y)\varphi(Y) or in a connected component of Cφ(Y)C_{\varphi}(Y). (Observe that ν\nu is continuous, and use Exercise 6.)
