Algebra, VIII, p. 161, § 9. Radical

Let M and M′M' be A-modules, (P,u)(P, u) and (P′,u′)(P', u') projective covers of M and M′M', respectively, and g:M→M′g: M\rightarrow M' an A-linear mapping.

a) There exists an A-linear mapping f:P→P′f: P\rightarrow P' such that u′∘f=g∘uu'\circ f=g\circ u.

b) Let ff be such a mapping. If gg is surjective (resp. bijective), then ff is surjective (resp. bijective). If gg is injective and its image is a direct factor of M′M', then ff is injective and its image is a direct factor of P′P'.

By assumption, the A-module P is projective and the mapping u′u' is surjective. Consequently, there exists an A-linear mapping f:P→P′f: P\rightarrow P' such that g∘u=u′∘fg\circ u=u'\circ f (II, §2, No. 2, p. 231, Proposition 4). Assertion a) follows.

Let ff be a mapping as in a). Suppose that gg is surjective. Since uu is surjective, we have M′=g(u(P))=u′(f(P))M'=g(u(P)) =u'(f(P)). Since (P′,u′)(P', u') is a projective cover of M’, we have f(P)=P′f(P) = P', so ff is surjective. By loc. cit., the kernel of ff admits a supplementary submodule P1P_1, so f(P1)=P′f(P_1) = P'. Now suppose that gg is bijective. We have g(u(P1))=u′(f(P1))=u′(P′)=M′g(u(P_1)) =u'(f(P_1)) =u'(P') = M', hence u(P1)=Mu(P_1) = M. Since (P,u)(P, u) is a projective cover of M, we have P1=PP_1= P, hence Ker(ff) =0= 0. So ff is injective; since we already know that ff is surjective, ff is bijective.

To conclude, suppose that gg is injective and that its image is a direct factor of M′M'. Then there exists an A-linear mapping g′:M′→Mg': M'\rightarrow M such that g′∘g=1Mg'\circ g= 1_M. By a), there exists an A-linear mapping f′:P′→Pf': P'\rightarrow P such that u∘f′=g′∘u′u\circ f'=g'\circ u'. We have u∘(f′∘f)=g′∘u′∘f=(g′∘g)∘uu\circ (f'\circ f) =g'\circ u'\circ f= (g'\circ g)\circ u; by the previous paragraph, the mapping f′∘ff'\circ f is bijective. Denote the converse bijection by hh; we have (h∘f′)∘f=1P(h\circ f')\circ f= 1_P, so ff is injective, and its image is a direct factor of P′P' (II, §1, No. 9, p. 212, Corollary 2).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
