Algebra, VIII, p. 454, Appendix 2. Determinants over a Noncommutative Field

Let D′D' be a field, and let uu be a homomorphism from D to D′D'. When passing to the quotients, uu defines a group homomorphism uabu_{ab} from Dab∗D^*_{ab} to Dab′∗D^{'*}_{ab}. Let unu_n be the homomorphism from GLn(D)\mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}_n(D) to GLn(D′)\mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}_n(D') that transforms a matrix A =(aij)= (a_{ij}) into the matrix (u(aij))(u(a_{ij})). The formula

(23) det(un(u_n(A)) =uab=u_{ab}(det(A))

for A∈GLn(D)A\in \mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}_n(D) follows immediately from Example 3.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
