Algebra, VIII, p. 455, Appendix 2. Determinants over a Noncommutative Field

Let V be a right vector space over the field D, of finite dimension nn. We view the dual space V∗=V^*= HomD(V,D)_D(V,D) as a right vector space over the opposite field DoD^o of D. Let uu be an automorphism of V, and let tu^tu be the automorphism of V∗V^* that is the transpose of uu. If uu is represented by a matrix A in Mn(D)\mathbf{M}_n(D) with respect to a basis (e1,...,en)(e_1, . . . , e_n) of V, then the automorphism tu^tu is represented by the matrix tA^tA in Mn(Do)\mathbf{M}_n(D^o) with respect to the basis (e1∗,...,en∗)(e^*_1, . . . , e^*_n) of V∗V^* dual to (e1,...,en)(e_1, . . . , e_n) (II, §10, No. 4, p. 344, Proposition 3). By Example 7, the determinant of tu^tu is equal to that of uu.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
