Algebra, VIII, p. 464, Appendix 4. Trace of an Endomorphism of Finite Rank

Let E, F be projective A-modules. Let u∈u\in HomAf(E,F)^f_A(E,F) and v∈v\in HomA(F,E)_A(F,E). We have the relation

(3) Tr(v∘uv\circ u) == Tr(u∘vu\circ v).

It suffices to prove the proposition when uu is of the form θ(x∗⊗y)\theta (x^*\otimes y) with x∗∈E∗x^*\in E^* and y∈Fy\in F. In this case, we have

v∘u=θE(x∗⊗v(y))v\circ u=\theta_E(x^*\otimes v(y)) and u∘v=θF(tv(x∗)⊗y)u\circ v=\theta_F(^tv(x^*)\otimes y),

and therefore

Tr(v∘uv\circ u) =⟨v(y),x∗⟩=⟨y,tv(x∗)⟩==\langle v(y), x^*\rangle =\langle y,^tv(x^*)\rangle = Tr(u∘vu\circ v).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
