Algebra, VIII, p. 367, § 19. Quaternion Algebras

Suppose that the quaternion algebra F is a field. It follows from the equality j2=γj^2=\gamma that we have γ≠0\gamma \not= 0. By Proposition 2 of VIII, p. 363, the center of F is equal to K unless K has characteristic 2 and β\beta is zero, in which case the algebra F is commutative.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
