Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VIII, § 2. Root system of a split semi-simple Lie algebra

Let (g,h)(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h}) be a split reductive Lie algebra, c\mathfrak{c} the centre of g,g′=Dg\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g}'=\mathscr{D}\mathfrak{g}, h′=h∩g′\mathfrak{h}'=\mathfrak{h}\cap \mathfrak{g}'. Then h=c×h′\mathfrak{h}=\mathfrak{c}\times \mathfrak{h}', and we identify h′∗\mathfrak{h}^{'*} with a vector subspace of h∗\mathfrak{h}^*. For any λ∈h∗\lambda \in \mathfrak{h}^* such that λ≠0\lambda \not= 0, the primary subspace gλ\mathfrak{g}^{\lambda} relative to λ\lambda is equal to g′λ∣h′{\mathfrak{g}'}^{\lambda|\mathfrak{h}'}. A non-zero weight of h\mathfrak{h} on g\mathfrak{g} is called a root of (g,h)(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h}); every root vanishes on c\mathfrak{c}. Denote by R(g,h)R(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h}) the set of roots of (g,h)(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h}); it can be identified canonically with R(g′,h′)R(\mathfrak{g}',\mathfrak{h}'). Let α∈R(g,h)\alpha \in R(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h}). We define hα,Hαh_{\alpha},H_{\alpha}, sα\mathfrak{s}_{\alpha}, the isomorphisms sl(2,k)→sα\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2, k)\rightarrow \mathfrak{s}_{\alpha}, and the representations of sl(2,k)\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2, k) on g\mathfrak{g} associated to α\alpha, as in the semi-simple case.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
