Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VIII, § 3. Subalgebras of split semi-simple Lie algebras

Let R1,...,RpR_1, . . . ,R_p be the irreducible components of R. For i=1,...,pi= 1, . . . , p, put gi=hRi+gRi\mathfrak{g}_i=\mathfrak{h}_{R_i}+\mathfrak{g}^{R_i}. Then g1,...,gp\mathfrak{g}_1, . . . ,\mathfrak{g}_p are the simple components of g\mathfrak{g}.

The gi\mathfrak{g}_i are ideals of g\mathfrak{g} (Prop. 1 (ii)). It is clear that g\mathfrak{g} is the direct sum of the gi\mathfrak{g}_i, hence the product of the gi\mathfrak{g}_i. Let a\mathfrak{a} and b\mathfrak{b} be complementary ideals of g\mathfrak{g}. Then a\mathfrak{a} and b\mathfrak{b} are semi-simple and stable under ad h\mathfrak{h}, so there exist subsets P,QP,Q of R such that a=hP+gP,b=hQ+gQ\mathfrak{a}=\mathfrak{h}_P+\mathfrak{g}^P,\mathfrak{b}=\mathfrak{h}_Q+\mathfrak{g}^Q. Then hP,hQ\mathfrak{h}_P,\mathfrak{h}_Q are orthogonal complements of each other in h\mathfrak{h} for the Killing form, so P and Q are unions of irreducible components of R. This proves that the gi\mathfrak{g}_i are minimal ideals of g\mathfrak{g}.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
