Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VIII, § 5. Automorphisms of a semi-simple Lie algebra

(i) Let m=(P(R):Q(R))m= (P(R) : Q(R)). If φ\varphi is the mmth power of an element of TQT_Q, then φ∈q(TP)\varphi \in q(T_P).

(ii) If kk is algebraically closed, q(TP)=TQq(T_P) = T_Q.

There exist a basis (λ1,...,λl)(\lambda_1, . . . , \lambda_l) of P(R) and integers n1≥1,...,nl≥1n_1\geq 1, . . . , n_l\geq 1 such that (n1λ1,...,nlλl)(n_1\lambda_1, . . . , n_l\lambda_l) is a basis of Q(R). We have m=n1...nlm=n_1. . . n_l. Let ψ∈TQ\psi \in T_Q and put ψ(n1λ1)=t1,...,ψ(nlλl)=tl\psi (n_1\lambda_1) =t_1, . . . , \psi (n_l\lambda_l) =t_l. For i=1,...,li= 1, . . . , l, put mi=m_i= ∏j≠inj\prod_{j\not=i}n_j. Let χ\chi be the element of TPT_P such that χ(λ1)=t1m1,...,χ(λl)=tlml\chi (\lambda_1) =t^{m_1}_1, . . . , \chi (\lambda_l) =t^{m_l}_l. Then

χ(niλi)=timini=tim=(ψm)(niλi) \chi (n_i\lambda_i) =t^{m_in_i}_i=t^m_i= (\psi^m)(n_i\lambda_i)

so χ∣Q(R)=ψm\chi |Q(R) =\psi^m. This proves (i). If kk is algebraically closed, every element of k∗k^* is the mmth power of an element of k∗k^*, so every element of TQT_Q is the mmth power of an element of TQT_Q; hence, (ii) follows from (i).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
