Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VIII, § 5. Automorphisms of a semi-simple Lie algebra

Let h\mathfrak{h} be a splitting Cartan subalgebra of g\mathfrak{g}.

(i) The group f(TQ)f(T_Q) is closed in Aut(g\mathfrak{g}) in the Zariski topology.

(ii) The group f(q(TP))f(q(T_P)) is dense in f(TQ)f(T_Q) in the Zariski topology.

Assertion (i) follows from the equality f(TQ)=f(T_Q) = Aut(g,h\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h})∩\capKerε\varepsilon (Prop. 2). Put m=(P(R):Q(R))m= (P(R) : Q(R)). Let F be a polynomial function on V; we assume that F vanishes on the mmth power of every element of f(TQ)f(T_Q), and show that F∣f(TQ)=0F|f(T_Q) = 0; in view of Lemma 3, this will prove (ii).

The set V′V' of elements of V inducing the identity on h\mathfrak{h} and leaving each gα\mathfrak{g}^{\alpha} stable can be identified with kRk^R. Let F′F' be the restriction of F to V′=kRV'=k^R; this is a polynomial function. We have f(TQ)⊂V′f(T_Q)\subset V'. Let B=(α1,...,αl)B = (\alpha_1, . . . , \alpha_l) be a basis of R. For all t=(t1,...,tl)∈k∗Bt= (t_1, . . . , t_l)\in k^{*B}, let φ(t)\varphi (t) be the homomorphism from Q(R) to the group k∗k^* that extends tt. Then F′(f(φ(t)))F'(f(\varphi (t))) can be written as a finite sum

∑n1,...,nl∈Zcn1,...,nlt1n1...tlnl=H(t1,...,tl) \sum_{n_1,...,n_l\in\mathbf{Z}}c_{n_1,...,n_l}t^{n_1}_1. . . t^{n_l}_l= H(t_1, . . . , t_l)

By assumption,

0=H(t1m,...,tlm)=∑n1,...,nl∈Zcn1,...,nlt1mn1...tlmnl 0 = H(t^m_1, . . . , t^m_l) =\sum_{n_1,...,n_l\in\mathbf{Z}}c_{n_1,...,n_l}t^{mn_1}_1. . . t^{mn_l}_l

for all t1,...,tl∈k∗t_1, . . . , t_l\in k^*. The cn1,...,nlc_{n_1,...,n_l} are thus the coefficients of a polynomial in ll variables which vanishes on k∗lk^{*l}; hence they are all zero.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
