Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VIII, § 5. Automorphisms of a semi-simple Lie algebra

The sequence of homomorphisms

1 ⟶TQ⟶f\longrightarrow T_Q\longrightarrow^f Aut(g,h\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h})⟶ε\longrightarrow^{\varepsilon} A(R) ⟶\longrightarrow 1

is exact.

a) Let φ∈\varphi \in Ker ff. Then φ(α)=1\varphi (\alpha ) = 1 for all α∈R\alpha \in R. Since R generates the group Q(R),φQ(R),\varphi is the identity element of TQT_Q.

b) Let φ∈TQ\varphi \in T_Q. The restriction of f(φ)f(\varphi ) to h=g0\mathfrak{h}=\mathfrak{g}^0 is the identity, so

Im f⊂f\subset Kerε\varepsilon.

c) Let s∈s\in Kerε\varepsilon. Then s∣h=s|\mathfrak{h}= Idh_{\mathfrak{h}}. For all α∈R\alpha \in R, we have s(gα)=gαs(\mathfrak{g}^{\alpha}) =\mathfrak{g}^{\alpha}, and there exists a tα∈k∗t_{\alpha}\in k^* such that sx=tαxsx=t_{\alpha}x for all x∈gαx\in \mathfrak{g}^{\alpha}. Writing down the condition that s∈s\in Aut(g\mathfrak{g}), we obtain the relations

tαt−α=1t_{\alpha}t_{-\alpha}= 1 for all α∈R\alpha \in R

tαtβ=tα+βt_{\alpha}t_{\beta}=t_{\alpha+\beta} when α,β,α+β∈R\alpha , \beta , \alpha +\beta \in R.

Under these conditions, there exists φ∈TQ\varphi \in T_Q such that φ(α)=tα\varphi (\alpha ) =t_{\alpha} for all α∈R\alpha \in R (Chap. VI, §1, no. 6, Cor. 2 of Prop. 19). Then s=f(φ)s=f(\varphi ). Hence, Ker ε⊂\varepsilon \subset Im ff.

d) The image of Aut(g,h\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h}) under ε\varepsilon contains W(R) by §2, no. 2, Cor. of Th. 2, and contains Aut(R,B,B) by Prop. 1. Hence this image is equal to A(R).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
