Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VIII, § 8. Symmetric invariants

Let E be a finite dimensional g\mathfrak{g}-module, and x∈Ex\in E. Then xx is an invariant element of the g\mathfrak{g}-module E if and only if (exp aEa_E).x=x.x=x for every nilpotent element aa of g\mathfrak{g}.

The condition is clearly necessary. Assume now that it is satisfied. Let aa be a nilpotent element of g\mathfrak{g}. There exists an integer nn such that aEn=0a^n_E= 0. For all t∈kt\in k, we have

0 = exp(taEta_E).x−x=taEx+.x-x=ta_Ex+ 2!1t2aE2x+⋯+(n−11t^2a^2_Ex+\cdots +(n-1 1)! tn−1aEn−1xt^{n-1}a^{n-1}_Ex,

so aEx=0a_Ex= 0. But the Lie algebra g\mathfrak{g} is generated by its nilpotent elements (§4, no. 1, Prop. 1). Hence xx is an invariant element of the g\mathfrak{g}-module E. Q.E.D.

For any ξ∈GL(g)\xi \in \mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}(\mathfrak{g}), let S(ξ)\mathbf{S}(\xi ) be the automorphism of S(g)\mathbf{S}(\mathfrak{g}) that extends ξ\xi, and S∗(ξ)\mathbf{S}^*(\xi ) the restriction to S(g∗)\mathbf{S}(\mathfrak{g}^*) of the contragredient automorphism of S(ξ)\mathbf{S}(\xi ). Then S\mathbf{S} and S∗\mathbf{S}^* are representations of GL(g)\mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}(\mathfrak{g}). If aa is a nilpotent element of g,θ(a)\mathfrak{g},\theta (a) is locally nilpotent on S(g)\mathbf{S}(\mathfrak{g}) and S\mathbf{S}(exp ad aa) == expθ(a)\theta (a), so

S∗\mathbf{S}^*(exp ad aa) == expθ∗(a)\theta^*(a). (2)

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
