Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VIII, 271

Let V be a finite dimensional vector space and E=V⊕V∗E = V\oplus V^*. Define a non-degenerate bilinear form Φ\Phi on E by

Φ((x,x∗),(y,y∗))=⟨x,y∗⟩+⟨y,x∗⟩ \Phi ((x, x^*),(y, y^*)) =\langle x, y^*\rangle +\langle y, x^*\rangle

Put N=⋀(V)N =\bigwedge(V) and Q(x)=12Φ(x,x)Q(x) =\frac{1}{2}\Phi (x, x) for x∈Ex\in E. Denote the spinor representation by λ:C(Q)→\lambda : C(Q)\rightarrow End(N) as in no. 2.IV, define f:o(Φ)→C+(Q)f:\mathfrak{o}(\Phi )\rightarrow C^+(Q) as in Lemma 1 of no. 2, and denote by ρ\rho the linear representation λ∘f\lambda \circ f of the algebra o(Φ)\mathfrak{o}(\Phi ) on N.

a) Associate to any endomorphism uu of V the endomorphism u~\widetilde{u} of E by the formula u~(x,x∗)=(u(x),−tu(x∗))\widetilde{u}(x, x^*) = (u(x),-^tu(x^*)). Show that u→u~u \rightarrow \widetilde{u} is a homomorphism of Lie algebras from gl(V)\mathfrak{g}\mathfrak{l}(V) to o(Φ)\mathfrak{o}(\Phi ); moreover, for uu in gl\mathfrak{g}\mathfrak{l}(V), ρ(u~)\rho (\widetilde{u}) is the unique derivation of the algebra ⋀(V)=N\bigwedge(V) = N that coincides with uu on V.

b) Let Ψ\Psi be a non-degenerate alternating bilinear form on V and γ:V→V∗\gamma : V\rightarrow V^* the isomorphism defined by Ψ(x,y)=⟨x,γ(y)⟩\Psi (x, y) =\langle x, \gamma (y)\rangle for x,yx, y in V. Show that the endomorphisms X~+\widetilde{X}_+ and X~−\widetilde{X}_- of E defined by

X~+(x,x∗)=(γ−1(x∗),0),X~−(x,x∗)=(0,−γ(x)) \widetilde{X}_+(x, x^*) = (\gamma^{-1}(x^*),0),\widetilde{X}_-(x, x^*) = (0,-\gamma (x))

belongs to o(Φ)\mathfrak{o}(\Phi ). Put H~=(−1)~\widetilde{H}= (-1\widetilde{)}. Show that (H~,X~+,X~−)( \widetilde{H},\widetilde{X}_+,\widetilde{X}_-) is an sl2\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}_2-triplet in the Lie algebra o(Φ)\mathfrak{o}(\Phi ).

c) Show that ρ\rho takes the endomorphisms H~,X~+,X~−\widetilde{H},\widetilde{X}_+,\widetilde{X}_- of o(Φ)\mathfrak{o}(\Phi ) to the endomorphisms of N denoted by H,X+H, X_+ and X−X_-, respectively, in no. 3.IV. Deduce that (H,X+,X−)(H, X_+, X_-) is an sl2\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}_2-triplet in the Lie algebra gl(N)\mathfrak{g}\mathfrak{l}(N).
