Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, IX, 396

Let G be an almost simple, connected, compact Lie group of type An,Bn,Cn,DnA_n,B_n,C_n,D_n or G2G_2. Prove that π2(G)=0\pi_2(G) = 0 and π3(G)=Z\pi_3(G) =\mathbf{Z} (use Exerc. 2 to 7 and the fact that πi(Sn)\pi_i(\mathbf{S}_n) is zero for i<ni < n and cyclic for i=ni=n (cf. General Topology, Chap. XI).
