Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter IX, § 4. Root system associated to a compact group

If D=(M,M0,R)D = (M,M_0,R) is a root diagram, let M0∗M^*_0 be the orthogonal complement of V(R) in M∗M^*, and let R∨R^{\vee} be the set of inverse roots of D. Then D∨=(M∗,M0∗,R∨)D^{\vee}= (M^*,M^*_0,R^{\vee}) is a root diagram, called the inverse of D. For all α∈R\alpha \in R, the symmetry sα∨s_{\alpha^{\vee}} of M∗M^* is the contragredient automorphism of the symmetry sαs_{\alpha} of M; the map w→tw−1w \rightarrow^tw^{-1} is an isomorphism from W(D) to W(D∨)W(D^{\vee}). Moreover, V(R∨)V(R^{\vee}) can be naturally identified with the dual of the Q\mathbf{Q}-vector space V(R),R∨V(R), R^{\vee} then being identified with the inverse root system of R.

If the dual of M∗M^* is identified with M, the inverse diagram of D∨D^{\vee} is identified with D.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
