Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter IX, § 5. Conjugacy classes

Let s\mathfrak{s} be a compact Lie algebra, and let φ\varphi be an automorphism of s\mathfrak{s}. There exists a regular element of s\mathfrak{s} fixed by φ\varphi.

Replacing s\mathfrak{s} by Ds\mathscr{D}\mathfrak{s}, we can assume that s\mathfrak{s} is semi-simple. Let S be a compact simply-connected Lie group with Lie algebra s\mathfrak{s}, and let uu be the automorphism of S such that L(u)=φL(u) =\varphi. Prop. 3 implies the existence of an element aa of s\mathfrak{s}, fixed by φ\varphi, such that exp aa is regular in S; in particular, aa is regular in s\mathfrak{s} (no. 2, remark 4).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
