Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter IX, § 7. Irreducible representations of connected compact Lie groups

Let τ:G→GL(V)\tau : G\rightarrow \mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}(V) be an irreducible representation. There exists an element ν\nu of X(C(G)) such that τ(s)v=ν(s)v\tau (s)v=\nu (s)v for all s∈C(G),v∈V:s\in C(G), v\in V: indeed, τ(C(G))\tau (C(G)) is contained in the commutant of τ\tau(G), which is equal to C∗.1V(\mathbf{C}^*.1_V(Algebra, Chap. VIII, §3, no. 2, Th. 1). For every weight λ\lambda of τ\tau, the restriction of λ\lambda to C(G) is equal to ν\nu.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
