Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter IX, § 7. Irreducible representations of connected compact Lie groups

We have

J(μJ(\mu)(exp(zγz\gamma )) =ezδ(μ)(γ)∏α>0(1−e−zδ(μ)(Kα))=e^{z\delta(\mu)(\gamma)}\prod_{\alpha >0}(1-e^{-z\delta(\mu)(K_{\alpha})}).

Thus, the function J(μJ(\mu)(exp(zγz\gamma )) is the product of a function that tends to 1 when zz tends to 0 and of

zN∏α>0δ(μ)(Kα)=(2πiz)N∏α>0⟨μ,Kα⟩ z^N\prod_{\alpha >0}\delta (\mu)(K_{\alpha}) = (2\pi iz)^N\prod_{\alpha >0}\langle \mu, K_{\alpha}\rangle

where N = Card R+R_+.

Assume first of all that ρ∈X(T)\rho \in X(T); applying Cor. 2 of Th. 2 we see that, as zz tends to 0,χλ(zγ)0,\chi_{\lambda}(z\gamma ) tends to

∏α>0⟨λ+ρ,Kα⟩/∏α>0⟨ρ,Kα⟩ \prod_{\alpha >0}\langle \lambda +\rho , K_{\alpha}\rangle /\prod_{\alpha >0}\langle \rho , K_{\alpha}\rangle

hence the theorem in this case.

In the general case, it suffices to remark that, in proving Th. 3, we can always replace G by a suitable connected covering and thus reduce to the preceding case.

We now prove Lemma 5. Let z∈Cz\in \mathbf{C}; denote by φz\varphi_z the map from t\mathfrak{t} to the C\mathbf{C}-algebra Map(X(T),C,\mathbf{C}) of maps from X(T) to C\mathbf{C} that associates to H∈tH\in \mathfrak{t} the map

φz(H):μ→μ\varphi_z(H) :\mu \rightarrow \mu(exp zHzH) =ezδ(μ)(H)=e^{z\delta(\mu)(H)}.

We have φz(H+H′)=φz(H)φz(H′)\varphi_z(H+H') =\varphi_z(H)\varphi_z(H'), so there exists a homomorphism of rings

ψz:Z[t]→\psi_z:\mathbf{Z}[\mathfrak{t}]\rightarrow Map(X(T),C,\mathbf{C})

such that ψz(eH)(μ)=ezδ(μ)(H)\psi_z(e^H)(\mu) =e^{z\delta(\mu)(H)}. On the other hand, by Chap. VI, §3, no. 3, Prop. 2, we have the following relation in Z[t]:\mathbf{Z}[\mathfrak{t}]:

∑w∈Wε(w)ewγ=eγ∏α>0(1−e−Kα) \sum_{w\in W}\varepsilon (w)e^{w\gamma}=e^{\gamma}\prod_{\alpha >0}(1-e^{-K_{\alpha}})

Applying the homomorphism ψz\psi_z, and using the equality

ψz(ewγ)(μ)=ezδ(μ)(wγ)=ezδ(w−1μ)(γ) \psi_z(e^{w\gamma})(\mu) =e^{z\delta(\mu)(w\gamma)}=e^{z\delta(w^{-1}\mu)(\gamma)}

we deduce the stated formula.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
