Topologie algébrique, chapter I, § 3. Faisceaux
A presheaf on B, relative to a basis of the topology of B, is a projective system of sets, relative to the set of indices ordered by the inclusion relation.
In other words (E, III, p. 52), a presheaf on B relative to is a pair , which is also denoted by , where is a family of sets having as set of indices and where for each pair of elements of such that is a mapping of into , these mappings satisfying the following conditions:
(PF) The relations imply ;
(PF) For every open set U is the identity mapping of
A presheaf on B relative to the set of open subsets of B is simply called a presheaf on B.
Let be a presheaf on B, relative to a basis of the topology of B. Let U be an element of the basis . The elements of are called the sections of over U. If V is an element of the basis containing U and an element of , the element of is called the restriction of to U. If there is no danger of ambiguity concerning the mappings , the restriction of to U will be denoted by .
Let be an open subset of B and a basis of the topology of such that . The presheaf on , relative to , deduced from by restriction, is called the restriction of to and denoted by , the projective system deduced from by restriction to of the set of indices (loc. cit.). When is a presheaf on B and is the set of open subsets of , the presheaf is also denoted by and called the presheaf deduced from by restriction to .
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
