Topologie algébrique, chapter I, § 6. Espaces simplement connexes

Let B be a topological space. Let T be a simply connected and locally connected space. Let E be a covering of B×TB\times T, with projection pp, and let tt be a point of T. Let EtE_t denote the space p−1(B×{t})\overset{-1}{p}(B\times \{t\}); endowed with the mapping pt=p_t= pr1∘p∣Et:Et→B_1\circ p|E_t: E_t\rightarrow B, it is a covering of B. There then exists a unique (B×T)(B\times T)-isomorphism of the covering (Et×T,pt×(E_t\times T, p_t\times IdT)_T) onto the covering E which maps (x,t)(x, t) to xx for every x∈Etx\in E_t.

One may suppose that B is not empty. Let xx be a point of EtE_t. By proposition 3 of I, p. 125 applied to the covering E and to the continuous mapping T→B×T,u↦(pt(x),u)T\rightarrow B\times T,u\mapsto (p_t(x), u), there exists a unique continuous mapping fx:T→Ef_x: T\rightarrow E such that fx(t)=xf_x(t) =x and p(fx(u))=p(f_x(u)) = (pt(x),u)(p_t(x), u) for every u∈Tu\in T. Let h:Et×T→Eh: E_t\times T\rightarrow E be the mapping defined by h(x,u)=fx(u)h(x, u) =f_x(u). We have h(x,t)=xh(x, t) =x and p∘h=pt×p\circ h=p_t\times IdT_T. The mapping hh is a lifting to E of the mapping pt×p_t\times IdT_T. The restriction of hh to Et×{t}E_t\times \{t\} is continuous, as is also the restriction of hh to {x}×T\{x\} \times T for every point xx of EtE_t. Since the space T is locally connected, the mapping hh is continuous ( I, p. 37, cor. 1 of th. 1).

Let bb be a point of B. By construction, the mapping hh induces a bijection of the fibre pt−1(b)×{t}\overset{-1}{p_{t}}(b)\times \{t\} of Et×TE_t\times T onto the fibre p−1(b,t)\overset{-1}{p}(b, t) of E at (b,t)(b, t). Since the space T is connected and locally connected, the mapping hh is bijective (I, p. 84, cor. of prop. 7). It is therefore a B×TB\times T-isomorphism (I, p. 30, cor. 2 of prop. 6).

Let h′h' be a (B×T)(B\times T)-isomorphism of the covering (Et×T,pt×(E_t\times T, p_t\times IdT)_T) onto the covering E which maps (x,t)(x, t) to xx for every point x∈Etx\in E_t. For every x∈Etx\in E_t, the mappings u↦h(x,u)u\mapsto h(x, u) and u↦h′(x,u)u\mapsto h'(x, u) are equal (I, p. 34, cor. 1 of prop. 11). Hence h=h′h=h'.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
