Topologie algébrique, chapter II, § 3. Groupoïdes
Given composable arrows and of , one can choose representatives and of and in Fl(G) which are composable. The class modulo of the product does not depend on the choice of and .
Let and be arbitrary representatives of and in Fl(G). The end of and the origin of belong to one and the same orbit of H, hence can be joined by an arrow of H (II, p. 162, prop. 1). The arrows and are then representatives of and in F which are composable in G. This proves the first assertion.
Let now on the one hand, and on the other hand, be representatives of and which are composable in G. By hypothesis, there exist arrows in H such that one has and . Then one has and . Since H is a normal subgroupoid of G, the arrow is an arrow of H. The same is therefore true of the arrow , which proves that and are equivalent modulo .
By virtue of this lemma, there exists a unique law of composition in the quiver such that, for every pair of composable arrows, is the class modulo of the product , for every pair of composable arrows of G such that is the class of and that of . Endowed with this law of composition, is a groupoid. Let Som(G) Som(G) and Fl(G) Fl(G) be the canonical surjections. The pair is a morphism of groupoids of G into whose kernel is the normal subgroupoid H.
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
