Topologie algébrique, chapter III, § 2. Homotopie et chemins
Let X be a topological space. The map which associates with a path the opposite path is a homeomorphism of Λ(X) onto itself. The juxtaposition of paths is a homeomorphism of the space onto Λ(X).
The mapping is a homeomorphism of the space onto itself; the first assertion follows.
Let C denote the fibered product . Let Λ(X) be the mapping and X the mapping . The restrictions of the mapping to and are continuous by virtue of formula (1) and of prop. 1. The mapping is therefore continuous (TG, I, p. 19, prop. 4), as is the mapping (prop. 1). We have and , hence is injective.
Let be a path in X; for , put
and .
The mappings and thus defined are juxtaposed paths in X and we have . Moreover, the mappings and are continuous mappings of the space Λ(X) into itself (prop. 1). It follows that the mapping is a homeomorphism.
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
