Topologie algébrique, chapter III, § 2. Homotopie et chemins

Soit T un espace topologique localement connexe. Soit U\mathscr{U} un ensemble filtrant croissant de parties ouvertes de T, de réunion T. Pour t∈Tt\in T et U∈UU\in \mathscr{U}, notons UtU_t la composante connexe de tt dans U si t∈Ut\in U et posons Ut=∅U_t=\emptyset si t∉Ut\notin U. Pour tout t∈T,⋃U∈UUtt\in T,\bigcup_{U\in\mathscr{U}}U_t est la composante connexe de tt dans T.

For t∈Tt\in T, put Ct=⋃U∈UUtC_t=\bigcup_{U\in\mathscr{U}}U_t. We have t∈Ctt\in C_t. The sets UtU_t are open and connected and the same is true of CtC_t since we have t∈Utt\in U_t if Ut=∅̸U_t=\not\emptyset (TG, I, p. 81, prop. 2). Let u,vu,v be points of T such that Cu∩Cv=∅̸C_u\cap C_v=\not\emptyset. Let tt be a point of Cu∩CvC_u\cap C_v; let U∈UU\in \mathscr{U} be such that t∈Uut\in U_u and let V∈UV\in \mathscr{U} be such that v∈Vvv\in V_v. Since U\mathscr{U} is increasing filtrant, there exists W∈UW\in \mathscr{U} which contains U∪VU\cup V. Then, Wu∩Wv=∅̸W_u\cap W_v=\not\emptyset, hence Wu=WvW_u= W_v. More generally, one has Wu′=Wv′W'_u= W'_v for every W′∈UW'\in \mathscr{U} such that W⊂W′W\subset W', hence Cu=CvC_u= C_v. This proves that the sets of the form CtC_t form a partition of T into open connected subsets. Consequently, for every t∈Tt\in T, CtC_t is the connected component of tt in T.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
